Welcome天津体育彩票网 to the AIG/Advanced Studies Department!

Welcome天津体育彩票网 to AIG/Advanced Studies! The webpage addresses the Academically or Intellectually Gifted (AIG) program at the elementary, middle, and high-school levels as well as Advanced Placement (AP) and Honors, typically incorporated at the high-school level.

    Advanced Studies

Teachers of gifted learners are trained in college-level course work covering a wide-range of gifted characteristics, theories, and practices.  All elementary and middle schools have at least one full-time AIG teacher who works with the county's Director of Fine Arts & Advanced Studies to oversee the AIG program at the school level.  Brunswick County offers additional professional development sessions in giftedness as an interim but integral steps towards full AIG-licensure.  The AIG In-House Certification Program entitles participants to teach AIG K-12 in their area of state licensure in Brunswick County.

At present, AIG classes are offered in the areas of reading/English Language Arts and math in grades 4-12.  When funding permits, other areas of interest, curricula, or challenging programs will also be examined for potential giftedness using the Intellectually Gifted (ID) identification, along with other traditional and non-traditional criteria and approved rubrics for eligibility.  Although not considered AIG, the K-3 Nurturing Program offered at the elementary level will extend and enrich student learning and promote acceleration through critical and creative thinking.

Advanced Placement (AP) and Honors classes are offered in many disciplines particularly at the high-school level.  AP exams allow students the opportunity to receive college credits or skip equivalent college courses for earning certain high scores (Level 3, 4, or 5).  Pre-AP, AP and Honors teachers are expected to participate in appropriate professional development training, especially with developing portfolios and rubrics.  AP teachers ear accreditation in their designated AP curriculum area through College Board institute training, refresher workshops, and relevant professional development sessions.  Both AIG and AP tuition reimbursement will be provided by BCS when funding permits.
